About This Game Judgement Silversword is the winner of the "WonderWitch" 2001 game development contest, and was originally released in 2004. Designed for the WonderSwan Color, Judgement Silversword has the unique distinction of being one of the few shooting games designed for a handheld console, and it's also one of the best! Destroying enemies as quickly as possible is essential to scoring in Judgement Silversword, giving the game a ruthless tempo. One of indie developer M-KAI's first games, it can be seen as the inspiration and predecessor to the gameplay ideas in Eschatos.Cardinal Sins puts an interesting twist on shoot 'em up gameplay with a score trial marathon spanning 7 different areas, each with a unique objective themed around the 7 Deadly Sins. Collect lives in Sloth, Hoard enemy data in Greed, and avoid Destruction at the hands of Wrath. Mastering the different objectives gives the game a great sense of variety. Getting an S rank in every trial is very challenging!Key Features:Two different games! Includes both Judgement Silversword and it's sequel, Cardinal Sins.Relentless shmup gameplay. Use your three weapons efficiently to rack up a high multiplier. However, your multiplier will drop quickly, so wipe out the enemies as fast as you can! Varied challenges and a deep scoring system create strong replay value.A faithful port of hard-to-find WonderSwan Color games.See where the legend began! Play the games that inspired Eschatos.Steam achievements are supported. 6d5b4406ea Title: JUDGEMENT SILVERSWORD - Resurrection -Genre: ActionDeveloper:QutePublisher:DegicaRelease Date: 18 Sep, 2015 JUDGEMENT SILVERSWORD - Resurrection - Download For Pc Compressed While basic, Judgement Silversword is a decent, well-ported little shmup. Interesting enemies and bullet patterns, but scoring is pretty lacking. Cardinal Sins, the second part of this package, is much more interesting, requiring the player to fulfill specific objectives in each stage before facing off against the final boss. Short, but alone justifies the purchase.. simple yet effective shmup. 6/10. I love this shmup. It's just rad. I love that you can see little reverse jets when you back the ship up and the little twitching movement your guns do as you pew-pew away. It's adorable. I also like the overall set up over the game where you have fast attack pattens instead of 5 or so long levels--it really makes the action flow beautifully. JSS also does an awesome job at finding a balance between traditional shooters with less/faster bullets and the ever-popular danmaku bullet hell with slow down and tons of bullets. You get the best of both with JSS. My only critique is that there's like 3 music tracks or so in the whole game. Guess it was just a software limitation from the original development of the game? Not a huge deal by any means, but a little meh. ALSO--I am very bummed there aren't scoreboards. WTF? That's so easy to do and the xbox360 version has them so why not the steam version? So lame. But still, all-in-all it's a fantastic shooter with well-balanced action, a unique shield system, lots of stocks so that it always feels fair, not a ton of memorization required, and a good mix of bullet-hell and traditional shooting style.PROTIP: If you have a controller or stick with a turbo function you can set the spread shot to turbo whilst also holding the straight shot to basically use both simultaneously. Or you can cheat the old-fashioned way without turbo and repeatedly mash the spreadshot while holding down the straight shot ;). A vast amount of my playtime from this comes from the Xbox 360 version of Eschatos, however this is an absolutely excellent port with just a single problem - Lack of online leaderboards. The Xbox 360 versions of these ports had online leaderboards and that's a pretty weird oversight for this release, especially considering Eschatos has them in place! With that said though, it's a set of two absolutely exceptional shmups that no fan of the genre should go without playing. Graphically simple but incredibly involving.Judgement Silversword was a Wonderwitch title that won a development competition and got a cartridge release for the Bandai Wonderswan. It's an excellent shmup with great scoring that's just damn fun to play.Cardinal Sins is more of a 'skill test' type of game, with objective based stages named after the 7 deadly sins. For example, envy has you destroying everything, and your score is based on destruction rate. Wrath has you vs. a boss throwing a screen full of bullets at you, and your score is based on how many times you've died. The grades you get throughout these 7 stages determine what bonuses you get for the final boss fight, which is extremely difficult. The two games bundled are amazing examples of good shmup mechanics and I'd highly recommend to any shmup fan. At this price it feels like I'm stealing.. One of the best shooters $5 can buy. Especially impressive considering it was originally a Wonderswan title (which now goes for $500 on ebay). I've long said that SHMUPS are an elegant genre. Simple in their goal, but complex in what they ask the player to perform. Judgement Silversword looks simple; it looks old, dated, and its 5 dollar price-tag may indicate it may be nothing more than a passing novelty. However, it's anything but. It's a perfect port of the Wonderswan rarity (which would easily cost you upwards of $500 to purchase otherwise), and plays like a dream. The scoring is simple, but razor sharp. The controls are responsive, the bullet patterns are captivating, and the short rapid-fire levels are so much fun to blitz through! Best 5 bucks I've spent in a very, very long time. The addition of Cardinal Sins which was, previously, only available on the Wonderswan Development Kit, is the icing on the cake. A must own. No question about it.. This little shmup is really excellent so far. Glad I bought it on impulse.. I picked up JUDGEMENT SILVERSWORD – Resurrection – up completely on a whim without knowing anything about the game. I was looking for something to play and the low price point was enough to persuade me to give it a try. There are a lot of bad to mediocre low-priced games out there that target impulse purchasers, and I'm happy to say that JUDGEMENT SILVERSWORD – Resurrection – does not fall into that category. The two included games are somewhat obscure WonderSwan Color titles. For anyone out there that doesn't know: the WonderSwan is a handheld game console that was released in Japan. Judgement Silversword was the winner of a Bandai game development contest, and Cardinal Sins is a WonderSwan title based on Judgement Silversword but only playable through the WonderWitch Personal Software Development Kit. Physical copies of the game are quite rare, and very expensive, as it only received a limited commercial release in Japan.Judgement Silversword is a more traditional shmup. You fly through each stage destroying enemies and fighting bosses along the way. It's a very challenging game, and unlike arcade style shooters you do not have infinite credits. While playing the game and earning points you will unlock additional credits and other features. The ship has two modes of fire and a shield which can also be used offensively. The game will feel very familiar to individuals that have played the Judgement Silversword's spiritual successor ESCHATOS.Cardinal Sins is a different type of game. Judging by the fact that this release was named JUDGEMENT SILVERSWORD – Resurrection –, I didn't really expect very much from the second game which isn't even referenced in the title. Recycle edition isn't exactly a very flattering subtitle for a game either. Despite its lack of prominent marketing, I ended up being more drawn into Cardinal Sins than I was Judgement Silversword. It has seven different stages, each of which has a special objective. You are graded on each individual stage, and the game gives you an average letter grade at the end. If the player performs well enough they will be rewarded with a chance to find the final boss. Cardinal Sins is a short and fast paced game perfect for people that are in the mood to play a quick game during a lunch break or between other activities. I've had a lot of fun trying to beat my personal best scores, and it is truly a shame that the Steam release doesn't have a global leader-board.The graphical and audio aspects are about what one would expect from an older handheld release. It looks and sounds fine, and fortunately has aged well. It would have been nice to have more audio tracks but I suspect there aren't so many due to the technical limitations of the WonderSwan. I enjoyed what was there, and even recognized one song that was later recreated in ESCHATOS. The visuals are clear and bullets are easy to distinguish. My only criticism in regards to graphics is of a very brief section of Cardinal Sins where the colors suddenly change. It was slightly disorienting the first time I saw it, but a non-issue once I knew what to expect.Overall JUDGEMENT SILVERSWORD – Resurrection – is a great package. It offers two great shmups at a very low price. I'm glad these were brought to Steam as they are WonderSwan titles I was completely unfamiliar with and most likely wouldn't have had the opportunity to play otherwise. As previously mentioned, it's unfortunate that the game doesn't have leader-boards, but fortunately this isn't something that at all detracts from the gameplay. I definitely recommend buying this, they're solid shooters and great bang for the buck. If you're a fan of the genre you really can't go wrong with this one.EDIT: October 6th, 2016 - It has leaderboards now! Buy this game!Like the review? Follow my curator page to see my thoughts on other games.. Judgement Silversword -Resurrection- is a vertical shmup in where your spaceship is as powerful as it is ever going to get from the very start. There are no power-ups and no bombs to clear the screen of bullets, just you and your skills is what can get you through this game. While the first dozen or so level may seem like a cake walk, things will quickly escalate from there and you will have so many projectiles shot at you that it nearly feels like it belongs in the Bullet Hell genre. The game features 30+ waves of enemies to get through and using one of your two continues will start you at the beginning of that wave. Using a continue usually means something went really badly for you as lives are rather plentiful and you will constantly see them drop. If the extra life item reaches the bottom of the screen then it will bounce back up for a short while but will be lost if it reaches the bottom of the screen again. It is a very real possibility to lose extra lifes to the abyss of space due to all the things on screen trying to kill you, so it is best to find an opening and retrieve it as soon as possible. To defend yourself you will have a wide shot attack that fills the screen with your projectiles and works great against a swarm of weak enemies or if you are too focused avoiding bullets to use your narrow shot. Your narrow shot is exactly what it sounds like and shoots a condensed wave of projectiles at your foes that will quickly annihilate them though it is best used against the tougher enemies since it can be easier to get overwhelmed by numbers if you don't use it effectively. If things get too hectic and you have no means of escaping projectiles your spaceship also has a shield that can disintegrate certain projectiles and slow the others down. It is a small, front mounted shield however, so you are still vulnerable from the sides and the back. It does have an energy meter that quickly refills itself but you will likely never run out due having a ton. That doesn't mean you can just sit back and shake off the all the projectiles however, as that will more likely then not result in you being overwhelmed. This is the kind of game where you want to shoot the enemies as soon as they appear and are able to attack you. One bullet is all it takes to do you in so it leads to some rather intense moments of switching from offensive to defensive at a moments notice. One thing that gave me a bad first impression was the ear-grating music that plays from wave 1-20. It is a song with a rather short loop and quickly grew annoying. The rest of the songs are fine and kind of catchy strangely enough, though most of your time will be spent hear that single tune. There is no story to speak of here, just you, your spaceship and tons of enemies to shoot down. There is a decent amount of enemy variety and they all have their own style of attacking. Some may try to crash into you, other will surround you by flying in a circle around you and one particularly nasty fellow will shoot unblock-able beams at you. None look visually memorable but it is still rather important to learn how they fight so you can be able to plan ahead and now what to expect. Bosses are rather hit or miss. Some are fun to fight like a sword carrying mech and others like a small unappealing cube are rather lame. They will all be the end of you if you don't focus on the fight and can take a heck of a lot of punishment. Barraging them with your narrow shot is far more effective than slowly damaging them with your spread shot though not suggested if you don't think you can navigate through all the projectiles. Some form of indication as to how damaged the boss is or a simple life bar would have been a nice addition as it can drag on a bit.Another oversight of boss fights are that they are introduced via text on screen but that very same text can hide projectiles that are shot at you for the duration that it is there. The graphics of this game are pretty outdated and unappealing though they do the job. It is a port from a portable system called the “Wonderswan” and was released in 2004 to it's defense. In the options menu you can rotate the screen if you like to pivot your monitor for that arcade like experience and it does support HD resolutions like 2560x1440p nicely enough. Not many environments to look at I'm afraid. Most of your time will be spent in the blackness of space though you will see some planets from time to time and have an space battle on the moon. One thing that may be a deal breaker for some is that there are no online leaderboards so you will have to compete against your own scores or of those that play on your PC.The other game included in this title is called “Cardinal of Sin” which has you completing objectives like killing enemies as fast as possible or collecting as much gold as you can. Each objective is centered around one of the 7 deadly sins like Sloth or Wrath. The meaning of your objective is not clear at times and in others you may not be able to read what you are meant to do since they quickly take the message of the screen. It is still the same game as Judgement Silversword however, it has the same music, enemies, bosses and everything else only that you now have objectives. After you complete all the 7 Sins you will be graded as to how well you did and go on to fight a boss. The way you go through areas have been remixed and the only other difference I could spot was that you now have less invincibility frames after respawning so get out of the way of projectiles if possible. All in all it did feel like a neat little side mode, not so much a two games in one package type of ordeal. Was not expecting much from Judgement Silversword -Resurrection- to be honest but to my surprise it turned out to be an addictive pleasure. It is a fast paced game that pulls no punches, even on easy mode you will need lots of skill to beat the game. Your arsenal of weapons and a shield you can use at anytime always makes the deaths feel like your fault alone making it so you can't help but to take another shot at the game and maybe this time you'll be able to take the♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥in wave 31 down.
